THE GROWING TECH EVENT HAS BEEN HOSTED BY PURKEYS FOR TEN YEARS

Representatives from Purkeys chaired and judged the Technology & Maintenance Council SuperTech National Technician Skills Competition September 22-25 in Orlando, Florida. Purkeys Sales and Service Engineers Larry Rambeaux, Rylar Masco and Sean Miller judged more than 130 of the nation’s best fleet technicians. They tested the technicians’ electrical problem solving skills along with Chief Creative Engineer Bruce Purkey and Chief Engineer Dale Henningson.

Purkeys has sponsored the tech competition since its inception ten years ago. It was modeled after the Arkansas state tech competition after Bruce and Larry noticed multiple state competitions growing in popularity. They worked with TMC to develop a competition that rewards excellent technicians as well as educates everyone involved. This year Larry noticed the scores were higher than ever and said, “Technicians are obviously taking the time to learn about a truck’s electrical system.”

This year the competition started with 134 technicians and was narrowed down to one winner during the course of the weeklong conference. Mark McClean of Fed Ex Freight took top honors. Bruce and Larry are very proud to see how the competition has grown over the years. Larry says, “Fleets are starting to see the value in this competition as their maintenance procedures and technicians improve.”
