How Purkeys Saved a Trailer Rental Company Money with a 3-in-1 Charge Controller System
Challenge
A large trailer leasing company had compatibility issues between their trailers liftgate charging system and the clients’ tractors. Since there are three different systems, dual pole, single pole, and seven-way aux, it was difficult to choose which one matched the driver’s truck. If the charging system isn’t properly connected the liftgate batteries don’t stay charged, leading to an increase in road calls. As a result, they lost time and revenue.
Solution
Purkeys designed and built a 3-in-1 Charge Controller System, the TC-8. This system was designed to look for the best connection, the dual pole, first, if the dual pole wasn’t detected it will look for the next best option, the single pole. If the controller can’t find either it will utilize the seven-way auxiliary circuit as the power connection. When connected to the seven-way, the system has an automatic feature that keeps the ABS on the trailer from being interrupted so the brake system always receives full voltage. Once connected, the system will keep liftgate batteries charged and functional.
Results
The trailer rental company was able to meet the needs of all their clients. By eliminating the need to match the trailer’s charging system to each tractor the fleet saved money.
